Mendelssohn's gift for melody is well displayed in this gentle,
flowing 6/8 song for piano. A late intermediate level pianist
should do well in its performance, displaying wide swings in
dynamics and expression while painting the musical picture of a
tranquil boat ride in Venice.
These 48 pieces were composed over a period of two decades,
beginning in 1832, and published in eight groups of six each. Many
of these songs were dedicated to the women in Mendelssohn's life
and reflect the sunniest qualities of his melodiousness,
spontaneity and invention. Maurice Hinson has skillfully researched
and edited these works back to their original form and provides a
very informative introduction, which includes many detailed
suggestions for a stylistic interpretation and performance, as well
as biographical information on the composer's life.
Mendelssohn's wonderful Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream
musically represents various characters in Shakespeare's play. This
edition is based on the duet manuscript dated 1829, which is housed
in the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. It includes
editorial fingering, an analysis of the form, and historical
information.
(Piano Solo). Newly edited editions of Mendelssohn's popular piano
works.

(String Solo). For violin and orchestra (piano reduction).
These pieces are delightfully challenging for intermediate pianists
and their musical messages are invariably interesting and clear.
Editor Willard A. Palmer has maintained the music in its orginal
form to achieve a performance as intended by the composer.
